Foods to Avoid Before Sleep

Caffeine-containing foods - coffee, tea, chocolate and over-the-counter pain relievers. Ensure that you read the label.

Alcohol - may reduce length of time to fall asleep but will leave you feel more tired in the morning. Avoid three to four hours before bed time. Affects REM sleep.

Heavy fatty meal - causes indigestion, heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux. Worsens snoring and sleep apnea

What Could You Eat?

Small snack before bedtime. Complex carbs can help - whole grain bread and pasta. Foods containing lecithin (banana) and tryptophan (turkey). However,there has not been lots of scientific studies in these areas.

Other Tips

Weight affects sleep quality, sleep apnea and snoring. Reducing weight can improve your sleep.
